Primate Protection Conservation Work

The Foundation hosts professional artists in residence who then give back by running weekly community art classes to youth in the area (ages 8-18) focusing on environment, climate etc. in support of OPP’s conservation programs using art and creativity. This collaboration links professional East African artists who run classes focusing on the environment, climate, riparian, primates and wildlife using creative methods.

Professional artist Boniface Maina, lead artist for the Orkedi Foundation has designed a program that allows the visiting artists to work alongside him building skills such as drawing, painting, collage, photography, sculpture and other creative skills therefore building an innovative approach to conservation education and bridging the gap between science and human emotion.

The impact of the art education program has been profound, empowering students to become active participants in wildlife conservation through artistic expression.

Camille as Chair of Ontulili Primates Protection (OPP), had the honor of attending the prestigious 2024 IFAW Animal Action Awards in London UK in October highlighting the journey and recognition of conservation and art as key links for both organizations.

Camille also attended The Abraham Foundation fundraiser in New York USA on 15 May on behalf of OPP and made contacts with the Natural History Museum London and Powell Cotton Museum Kent UK highlighting the artist in residence program that supports OPP’s  community art and conservation projects and was able to talk about the growing enthusiasm for the art classes and the possibility of doing an exhibition in the near future.
